CITY & SURROUNDS

Port Elizabeth, also known locally as PE or 'friendly city', is located on the warm Indian Ocean in the Eastern Cape Province, and one of the largest cities in South Africa. There are a few popular places where you can enjoy yourself socialising while you learn something about the country and its culture. There is a variety of restaurants, bars and clubs not too far from the school.

The Boardwalk is the entertainment area in Port Elizabeth and well-known for good restaurants, bars, games, activities, shops, movies and a casino.

The Bayworld complex is - like our school - located in Summerstrand. The museum focuses on the bay's marine life and the history of area and city, as well as seals, penguins and other wildlife.

The Red Location Museum is an Apartheid museum in Port Elizabeth's New Brighton township, and was founded in 2005.It reminds us about apartheid and the conditions under which many people were forced to live, and honours those who suffered or lost their lives resisting this system.

The South End Museum, in the suburb of South End and not far from the school, also serves to remind us of conditions under Apartheid, the forced removals of people from their homes in the heart of the city, and the early history of our city.

Visit St. George's Park, a beautiful park in the heart of the city with a recently renovated green house, public swimming pool and other sports facilities- including some of South Africa's oldest cricket and rugby grounds.

Route 67, Port Elizabeth's Art & Culture Route, starts at the Campanile monument to the landing of the British Settlers in 1820, leading all the way to, and beyond, the Donkin Reserve, a green park in the heart of the city. Experience the diverse architecture, the oldest opera house and theatre in South Africa (and possibly in Africa), the beautiful city library and much more.

Baywest Mall, Greenacres and Walmer Park are three of the shopping malls in Port Elizabeth where you can spend a day shopping, go to the movies or meet friends and chat in different restaurants.
